Kewl
They don't make em like they used too. This post has nothing to do with Sir Paul nor the Beatles, but that moment captured by film is just kewl.
Speaking of kewl, I've been digging on Austin's Harlem pretty hard lately. And their new album, Hippies, is pretty rad as well. It is not slated to be released until April 6, on Matador Records, but like most things lately the internet already owne's a copy of it, and he is happy to share it. But don't worry Matador and Harlem, I'm sure when it gets released I will purchase the LP, it's that solid!
Check out opening track, and personal favorite, "Someday Soon."

FUCK COLLEGE
A couple of months ago I saw some Cold Cave video on the wish-washy Pitchfork TV Tunnlevision show. (click here to read Part Time Music's extensive Pitchfork ratings research). I was intrigued, but not till about a week ago did I give some time to their releases "Cremations" and "Love Comes Close."
Shits been hitting pretty hard in my ears. And then three days ago I find out via a retweet from Best Coast that former co-lead singer of the fantastic band Mika Miko, Jennifer Clavin, has quit college and join Cold Cave. I haven't heard any official word from anybody, but that's pretty rad news. Click here to read the tweet.

Say it with me, PAR--TY
While it's still miserable and cold outside, I still can't help but feed my knack for surf music. It's sunny/breezy/gritty guitars and laid back drums just plain give me good vibes. In good surf rock [my opinion] I want to hear something that I can both chill back on or put on to get things rolling. LA's The Allah La's fulfill both of these requirements.
I have yet to hear of any releases from the quartet, nor was able to download anything, so your gonna have to settle on good ole' myspace. If I would have posted this a couple of weeks ago you could have been able to hear 4 wave-blissed tunes, but now you are gonna have to settle for 2. Listen to the shake-rific track "Catamaran" [the chill track] and the party rolling "Long Journey."
And if and when they do release something, I hope they use this piece of art I found on their space. ITS AWESOME!

Child Warriors
Do you miss CocoRosie? I do. I mean I miss the early days of CocoRosie, the lo-fi animal sound casio keyboards, the childlike keyboard playing, all mixed with odd vocals, which to me, just sounded incredibly pleasant and sweet.
The nice thing about the internet is that there's a playground of other children, all with just as much freak in them as the next. Not all of them are gonna be winners, but every now and then you stumble across a band that has that innocence and outsider authenticity that will have an affect on your bones. I felt that way when I came across Albuquerque, New Mexico's Pantaloof.
While I could go into some detail as to how much I really appreciate the child like euphoria I get when I hear a Pantaloof track, I like the way they describe their inspirations for their musical outputs ::
"pyramids, kissing, the sound of children laughing, ragers, knitting, partaking in the worshipping of magical herbs, cats purring, rap sessions, song circle, liberation."

Post-Apocalyptic
What were you doing when you first heard about Y2K? I remember my mom going crazy, looking through our cupboards making sure we had enough canned food. Now all we have to look forward to is either the Mayan prophecy to come true or the New world Order takes charge. Either way we seemed fucked.
The Jesus and Mary Chain seem to have this affect on my brainwaves to venture into the post-apocalyptic world. This latest listen to Psychocandy was particularly impacting on my skull muscle. And with that I found myself video surfing J&MC jams. Which eventually lead me to this particular video, which contained this particular William Reid quote, which had me thinking about the post-apocalyptic in a much more optimistic light: "We may have been in the gutter, but we were looking up at the stars..."

Frau-TASTIC
I am a huge fan of the Raincoats, d.i.y. ethos, and three girl vocal harmonies. So it's no surprise I have been digging Grass Widow, Brilliant Colors, and the Dum Dum Girls. But what about those cheeky British, what do they have to offer to the table? Well, there's WETDOG. A trio from UK storming the charts with their brand of all girl post-(finally) punk.
They just released there 2nd record on Captured Tracks, Frauhaus!, and are already prepping for SXSW, some dates with the Vivian Girls in March and an east coast tour with label mates Blank Dog (who also is the owner of Captured Tracks).
I've heard a couple of tracks from Frauhaus, and they are pretty rad. Think a more controlled Finally Punk, mixed with some love from C86 mixes, the style of 2012 Bushwick, and a dash of Bikini Kill.
WETDOG :: Lower Leg
WETDOG :: Snapper
